The Friends of St Michael's

The Friends of St Michael’s Church, a registered charity, were reformed in 2012 with the aim of raising funds to preserve the fabric and beauty of the building by contributing towards its restoration, maintenance and improvement, thereby preserving the building for future generations.

Over recent years The Friends have raised significant funds, contributing to the restoration of the South Porch (2016-2019) and urgent repairs to the West Wall (2022-23).

The Friends hold fund-raising events throughout the year from the ever popular lunchtime music concerts in the summer months to cake stalls and producing Christmas and greeting cards. The Friends hold a coffee morning every Friday — in the church during the summer or in the Undercroft in colder weather — serving freshly brewed coffee, homemade cakes and scones. A warm welcome is extended to all at what has become a popular meeting place for friends and visitors alike.

Why do we need Friends?

St Michael’s church has been a focal point of the market town of Beccles for the past 600 years. Its survival for future generations is not guaranteed unless we raise funds to preserve and repair this beautiful, historic building to play a role in the lives of the people living in the Beccles area. This is not just for the benefit of those who worship here but those who love the building and desire to be a part in preserving it.
