St John the Baptist, Barnby

St John’s is the smallest church in Beccles Parish. With its bright stained glass windows, 15th century wall paintings and original medieval door to the banner stave locker St John’s is truly a hidden gem — both figuratively and literally.

Set back from the road in the notoriously dangerous Barnby Bends, St John’s has been left cut off from the village since the creation of the A146 bypass in the 1980s. With large numbers of cars and lorries hurtling past at high speed, getting to the church can be a daunting experience.

The increasingly difficult access to the church and challenging parking means we do not hold many services at St John’s. Please refer to the parish calendar for details of services on any given Sunday.
